Currently I am working on a model of time perception based on results from event duration discrimination experiments that recorded from neurons in the lateral intraparietal cortex. Perception of the passage of time plays a critical role in cognitive functions and it is hard to imagine how any animal could function without such a sense. But how does the brain compute relevant timing information? Is there some kind of clock circuit hidden among the complex signals of neurons? Our model will present a biologically plausible mechanism for the brain’s sense of time.
